Enphase system: no production — what it means and what to do

Your Enphase system reported that it is not producing power. Causes range from a tripped breaker or grid problem to a microinverter or communication fault. Check the app and the gateway lights, confirm the solar breaker is on, and call for service if it does not recover.

What we see across our fleet

  • We have seen this fault on 267 Enphase systems, 5.4% of the 4,980 Enphase systems we monitor (last 12 months).
  • Source: Otovo fleet monitoring and service records, data through August 2026.

Common causes

  • A solar AC breaker or disconnect is off.
  • The utility grid was out or outside the allowed range.
  • Snow or other cover over the panels, or night time.
  • Microinverters are not communicating with the gateway, so the app shows no data.
  • A fault in a microinverter or a panel connection, which a technician must test.

Safe steps to try

  1. Check the time and the panels Microinverters produce only when the panels have light, so there is no output at night. Look from the ground for snow or heavy cover on the panels.
  2. Look at the app Open the Enphase App and note the alert text, the time, and whether the gateway is reporting.
  3. Read the gateway lights Enphase lists the Power production light as green when all microinverters are producing, red when one or more have stopped, and off when all have stopped. It is normal for it to be off at night.
  4. Check the solar breaker Make sure the solar breaker in your electrical panel is on. If it is off, switch it on once. If it trips again, leave it off.
  5. Wait for the grid If the power was out, allow some time for the grid to settle before checking again.

When to call a professional

Call a professional if production is still zero in good daylight after the breaker check, if the breaker trips again, or if the gateway production light stays red for more than a day. Otovo services these systems and can diagnose this fault. Never open panels, microinverters or enclosures.

Frequently asked questions

Is zero production dangerous?
The alert itself is not a danger. Do not touch wiring or equipment. If you smell burning or see damage, switch the solar breaker off and call a professional.
Why is the gateway light off at night?
Enphase states the Power production light is off at night because the microinverters are not producing.
Could it be only a monitoring problem?
Yes. If the gateway is not reporting, the app may show no data. Check the gateway first.
Can I repair a microinverter?
No. Enphase states microinverters contain no user-serviceable parts.
