Generac PV Link Low Sun status: what it means and what to do

"Low Sun" on a Generac PV Link means the PV Link is not getting enough voltage from the solar panels to run. Generac says every PV Link shows Low Sun at night, after sunset, or when panels are covered. Low Sun while the sun is shining points to a problem with the solar input to that PV Link, not with the REbus wiring.

Fix soon

Common causes

  • Normal: it is night, early morning or dusk.
  • Panels are covered, for example by snow.
  • A problem with the solar panel wiring or panels feeding that PV Link.
  • PV Link settings, such as the startup voltage on short strings or the rapid shutdown (SnapRS) setting, not matching the installation.

Safe steps to try

  1. Check the time and weather Look again in the middle of a clear day. Low Sun at night or under heavy cloud is expected.
  2. Look for covered panels from the ground If snow or debris is covering part of the array, the PV Link can show Low Sun. Do not climb on the roof to clear it.
  3. Compare your PV Links On the PWRcell inverter control panel, check whether one PV Link or all of them show Low Sun in sunshine. Note which ones and since when.
  4. Do not open the PV Link Generac says the PV Link is factory sealed with no user-serviceable parts.

When to call a professional

If a PV Link shows Low Sun during full sun for more than a day, contact your installer or a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD). They check the PV Link settings and measure the panel string voltage and wiring.

Frequently asked questions

Is Low Sun at night a fault?
No. Generac says all PV Links show Low Sun every night when the sun goes down.
Is it my battery or REbus wiring?
Generac's troubleshooting table says Low Sun in sunshine indicates a problem with the PV input and is not a REbus wiring issue.
