Generac PWRcell Battery Not Ready: what it means and what to do

"Battery Not Ready", or a battery that stays in the Waiting state (orange light strobing every 2 seconds), means the PWRcell battery cannot start up and join the system. Generac lists causes such as the battery disconnect switch being off, an incomplete connection between battery modules, battery communication cables out of order, or blown battery fuses.

Fix soon

Common causes

  • The battery disconnect switch is off.
  • Zero stack voltage from an incomplete series connection between modules.
  • Battery communication cables out of sequence or not fully connected.
  • One or more battery fuses are blown.

Safe steps to try

  1. Check the status light An orange light strobing every 2 seconds means Waiting. Solid orange means the battery is disabled.
  2. Ask whether the disconnect was turned off Generac's first check is whether the battery disconnect switch is off. If someone serviced the system recently, ask them whether it was left off. Have your installer confirm before changing it.
  3. Do not open the cabinet The other causes involve modules, cables and fuses inside the battery, which Generac says only a qualified technician should access.

When to call a professional

Contact your installer or a Generac Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD) if the battery stays in Waiting or Battery Not Ready. This is especially likely after a module replacement or other service.
