Generac fault guides
Plain answers to the fault codes and alerts we see most often on solar systems, with what our own monitoring and service records show.
- Generac PV Link Low Sun status: what it means and what to do
"Low Sun" on a Generac PV Link means the PV Link is not getting enough voltage from the solar panels to run. Generac says every PV Link shows Low Sun at night, after sunset, or when panels are covered. Low Sun while the sun is shining points to a problem with the solar input to that PV Link, not with the REbus wiring.
- Generac PV Link Offline: what it means and what to do
A PV Link that shows "Offline" on its PWRcell inverter device page has talked to the inverter before but has lost that connection. Generac lists the causes as the PV Link DC disconnect being opened, the PV Link's communication channel (PLM channel) no longer matching the inverter, or damage to the REbus wiring. While offline, that PV Link's solar panels do not deliver power.
- Generac PWRcell battery blinking red: what it means and what to do
On a Generac PWRcell battery, a red status light blinking rapidly (every half second) means the battery is in an Error state. A slow red strobe about every 8 seconds means Sleeping, which is normal after the battery runs down during an outage.
- Generac PWRcell Battery Not Ready: what it means and what to do
"Battery Not Ready", or a battery that stays in the Waiting state (orange light strobing every 2 seconds), means the PWRcell battery cannot start up and join the system. Generac lists causes such as the battery disconnect switch being off, an incomplete connection between battery modules, battery communication cables out of order, or blown battery fuses.
- Generac PWRcell inverter not connected to internet: what to do
When the Internet light on the Generac PWRcell inverter control panel is off, the inverter is not connected to Generac's server, so remote monitoring cannot see live data. A slowly strobing blue Internet light is different: it means a firmware update is in progress. Generac's troubleshooting step is to make sure the inverter is connected to the internet through your router.
- Generac PWRcell Island Overload: what it means and what to do
"Island Overload" on the Generac PWRcell inverter screen means that during a grid outage your home tried to draw more power than the PWRcell system can supply. The inverter protects itself by shutting off power and retrying at increasing intervals, so backup power cycles on and off. Generac says the inverter light alternates between blinking green and solid red.
