Tigo EI app gray panel (no data): what it means and what to do

A gray panel in the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) app or portal means Tigo is not receiving monitoring data for that module. Tigo lists common causes as a communication issue, radio interference, a module that has not been discovered yet, or a recently replaced Tigo device that has not been updated in the portal. A gray panel shows missing data, not necessarily missing power: Tigo optimizers let the rest of the string keep producing even if one unit fails.

Common causes

  • A communication issue between the module's Tigo TS4 device and the system.
  • Radio interference.
  • The module has not been discovered yet.
  • A recently replaced Tigo device that has not been updated in the EI portal.
  • Low module voltage, for example at dawn or dusk: Tigo notes a module may turn gray when its voltage drops below the minimum the device needs to communicate.

Safe steps to try

  1. Check the time of day Look again in full daylight. Tigo notes that low voltage can make a module appear gray because its device can no longer communicate.
  2. See how many panels are gray One gray panel points to that module's Tigo device. Many or all gray panels usually point to the system's communication link, so check that your home internet is working and look at the status light on the Tigo CCA if you have one.
  3. Book a visit if a panel stays gray If one module stays gray in full sun for several days, a technician can run discovery again or replace the device. Do not open the inverter, a disconnect, a junction box or any conduit, and do not touch the panels, racking or wiring.

When to call a professional

Call if a panel stays gray in full sunlight for several days, if many panels turn gray at once and your internet is working, or if your total production has dropped.

Frequently asked questions

Does a gray panel mean it is not producing power?
Not necessarily. Gray means monitoring data is unavailable. If a TS4 has failed, Tigo says that module gives no output, but built-in string bypass lets the rest of the panels in the string keep producing.
What do black or dark panels mean?
In Tigo's power and energy views, black means little or no power. That is normal at night; during the day it may point to a wiring or system issue. Dark green means a module is producing less than its neighbors, often because of temporary shade.
