SMA event 7702 Interference device: what it means and what to do
On SMA Sunny Boy TL-US inverters, event 7702, like the whole range 7701 to 7712, appears as "Self diagnosis" with "Interference device". SMA's manual says the cause must be determined by the SMA Service Line, and its only corrective measure is to contact SMA. There is nothing for an owner to reset, so note the code and book a technician who can work through the case with SMA.

Common causes
- A fault found by the inverter's own self-diagnosis. SMA does not publish a more specific cause for events 7701 to 7712; it states the cause has to be determined by the SMA Service Line.
Safe steps to try
- Write down the exact event number Note the number (for example 7701 or 7702) and the text on the display. SMA's service process starts from the exact event number.
- Check the red light SMA's user manual explains that a lit red LED means an error and tells owners to contact their installer. Note whether it is lit. Do not open the inverter, a disconnect, a junction box or any conduit, and do not touch the panels, racking or wiring.
- Book a technician A technician can take the readings SMA asks for and open a case with the SMA Service Line, which SMA names as the only party that can determine the cause.
When to call a professional
Call within a few days. The inverter is reporting an internal fault that SMA says only its Service Line can diagnose, and your system is likely producing little or nothing until it is resolved.
Frequently asked questions
- Can a restart fix event 7702?
- SMA does not list a restart as a remedy for 7701 to 7712. Its only corrective measure is to contact the SMA Service Line, so a technician working with SMA is the right next step.
