ABB fault guides
Plain answers to the fault codes and alerts we see most often on solar systems, with what our own monitoring and service records show.
- ABB/FIMER inverter E031 Error Read V: what it means and what to do
ABB/FIMER error E031 shows as "Error Read V" with the Alarm LED. The manual calls it "Output relay damaged": the inverter measured too great a voltage difference between the input and output of its grid-connection relay. FIMER classifies it as an error inside the inverter that cannot be checked externally, and if it persists after the inverter is switched off and back on, the remedy is to contact FIMER customer assistance.
- ABB/FIMER inverter E050 arc fault: what it means and what to do
ABB/FIMER error E050 shows as "AFDD Activated" or "Arc Fault" with the GFI LED. It means the inverter's arc fault protection has detected a possible arc on the DC (solar panel) side and has disconnected from the grid. Because an arc can come from damaged wiring or connectors, have a technician inspect the system before it is reset.
- ABB/FIMER inverter Missing Grid: what it means and what to do
"Missing Grid" on an ABB/FIMER inverter means the inverter is not detecting any voltage on its AC (grid) side, so it cannot connect and produce power. It often follows warning W003 "Grid Fail", which FIMER uses when the grid voltage is absent or unstable. During a power outage this is expected; if your home has power and the message stays, a technician needs to check the AC supply to the inverter.
- ABB/FIMER inverter Riso Low (E025): what it means and what to do
"Riso Low" on an ABB/FIMER inverter means that before connecting to the grid, the inverter measured the insulation resistance of the solar array to ground and found it below 1 megohm, so it does not connect. FIMER logs this as error E025, although that number is not shown on the display. Common causes include damaged panels, moisture in junction boxes, and poor connections, and the check has to be made by a technician.
