# SunPower SunVault manual reset required: what it means and what to do

If your SunVault battery stops powering your home during an outage, the mySunPower app may show a popup saying a manual reset is required. SunPower says this usually happens when home loads exceed SunVault's maximum power level while it is running in backup. The reset needs large appliances turned off first and the system connected to the internet.

## Common causes

- Home loads exceeded SunVault's maximum power while it was running in backup.
- The remote power off (RPO) button, if your system has one, has been pressed in.
- A breaker in the Hub+ or SunVault battery enclosure is off.

## Safe steps to try

1. **Turn off large appliances** Switch off air conditioning, electric heaters, ovens, EV chargers and similar large loads before resetting.
2. **Check the remote power off button** If your SunVault has a red remote power off (RPO) button, make sure it is pulled out all the way so the yellow ring around it is visible.
3. **Follow the reset prompt in the app** Use the popup in the mySunPower (SunStrong Connect) app. SunPower notes the in-app reset needs SunVault online via Wi-Fi, ethernet or cellular, so check that your router and modem have power.
4. **Leave the enclosure breakers to a technician** SunPower's reset article also lists breakers inside the Hub+ and battery enclosure. If the app reset does not work, have a qualified technician check them rather than opening the enclosures yourself.

## When to call a professional

Call a qualified SunVault technician if the reset does not restore backup, if the RPO button was not pressed, or if SunVault shuts down repeatedly with normal loads.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why did SunVault shut off during an outage?

SunPower says the usual reason is home loads exceeding the maximum SunVault power level while in backup.

### Why can't the app reach SunVault during an outage?

SunPower notes internet and cellular service may be limited during outages, and recommends plugging your router into a circuit backed up by SunVault.

### Can I keep SunVault full before a storm?

SunPower's Reserve mode keeps 97 to 100% of the battery in reserve ahead of an expected outage. You can select it in the SunVault tab of the app.
